Skip the Grocery Run 😎

Winn-Dixie partners with Amazon to bring grocery delivery to Southshore, offering thousands of items without leaving home

Winn-Dixie has partnered with Amazon to expand grocery delivery across Florida, and that expansion now includes the Tampa Bay area and surrounding communities like Southshore.

Residents can now order from a selection of more than 15,000 items, including fresh produce, meat, pantry staples, and household goods, all through Amazon’s platform. Orders can be scheduled for delivery, giving customers the option to get groceries without making a trip to the store.

The rollout now reaches nearly 100 cities and towns across Florida, signaling a broader push toward convenience in everyday shopping. For Southshore residents, that means another option when it comes to managing busy schedules, long commutes, and crowded stores.

This comes at a time when grocery habits are continuing to shift. More people are getting comfortable with delivery and pickup, especially for routine purchases. Instead of planning a full grocery trip, shoppers can restock essentials from home or on the go.

At the same time, in-store shopping isn’t going anywhere. Many customers still prefer to pick their own produce, compare options, or make quick decisions in the moment. But for everyday items and repeat purchases, delivery is becoming the go-to.

For a fast-growing area like Southshore, where traffic and time are often part of the equation, services like this could quickly become part of the weekly routine.

Care Where You Least Expect It

Feeding Tampa Bay expands services with on-site clinic, providing healthcare to families who might otherwise go without

You don’t usually expect to see a doctor in the same place you’re picking up groceries. But that’s exactly what’s happening in Tampa Bay right now.

At Feeding Tampa Bay, families are coming for food and leaving with something they didn’t expect, medical care. And just weeks after opening, demand is already growing fast.

The new clinic is designed to meet people where they are. People can walk in, sign their name, and get help. Sometimes it’s a quick checkup. Other times it’s medication or a referral for something more serious. And for many, it’s care they wouldn’t have received at all.

The clinic sits right next to the food pantry, making it easier for families already struggling to access both food and healthcare in one place. In a short time, hundreds of people have already used it, with seniors making up a large portion of visits.

Behind that demand is a bigger reality. Rising costs and limited access to care are leaving more people without options, and local organizations are stepping in to help fill the gap.

For Southshore, it’s a reminder that the need is closer than it seems. And sometimes helping the community isn’t about building something new. It’s about showing up where people already are.

The Ocean Is Turning Into a Chemical Soup

When scientists went looking for pollution in the ocean, they expected to find some traces of modern life. What they didn’t expect was just how much.

A recent study has found that hundreds of human-made chemicals are now present throughout marine ecosystems across the world. Researchers analyzing ocean samples detected at least 248 different synthetic compounds, many of which come from everyday products like medications, pesticides, cleaning products, and cosmetics.

Most of these chemicals start their journey on land. They wash down drains, flow through wastewater systems, or run off roads and lawns during rainstorms. Eventually, they move through rivers and waterways until they reach the ocean. Once they get there, they don’t always disappear.

Scientists say many of these substances can build up in marine environments and in the animals that live there. Some compounds are known to accumulate in fish and other marine life over time, moving up the food chain as larger animals eat smaller ones.

That matters because oceans aren’t isolated ecosystems. What happens in the water eventually connects to coastal communities.

For places like ours, that connection runs straight through Tampa Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Those waters support a wide range of marine life, including fish, dolphins, sea turtles, and manatees. They also support recreational fishing, boating, tourism, and a big part of Florida’s coastal economy.

If synthetic chemicals continue building up in marine ecosystems, researchers say it could affect the health of marine species and potentially the seafood people rely on.

The findings don’t mean the ocean has suddenly become toxic overnight. But they do show that the chemical footprint of modern life is spreading farther than many people realized.

And for communities along the water, it serves as a reminder of something that’s easy to overlook. The ocean might feel vast and endless when you’re standing on the shore. But everything upstream eventually finds its way there.
