Apollo Post Office Gets New Life
Postal news, hurricane help, and a community spot that'll keep you smiling

The Apollo Beach Post Office Finds New Life

If you threw your hands up at the news of the Apollo Beach Post Office closing on Flamingo Dr., you weren’t alone. We ran a story a few months ago about the petition to keep it open. Beyond our 30,000 daily readers, the web version pulled thousands of views that week. But we’ve got news that might make you feel a little better.
Doreen Morrison, the postmaster who ran the Apollo Beach Post Office, isn’t going anywhere. The location will become a Pack and Ship store offering many of the same services you relied on before. Shipping, U.S. stamps, printing, and private mailboxes will be available, with more services coming soon.
Doreen says the biggest thing for her is staying available to serve the community. Budget cuts may have ended the postal contract, but the need didn’t go away. September 30, 2025, is the last day for the U.S. Post Office. October 1, 2025, is day one for the new Pack and Ship. Hours: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch break at 1 p.m.
New name, same Doreen. Stop in, say hello, and while you’re there, grab a private mailbox. She’s got plenty.

Hurricane Help…Maybe

We hear it all the time. Hillsborough County is the red-headed stepchild. (We love gingers, and stepkids are awesome. Shoutout to Ronald Weasley and Ed Sheeran.) But getting funding here is like pulling wisdom teeth from a sabertooth tiger. It’s city first, county… “were you sitting there this whole time?” So we’ll see how this develops.
A $1.3 million federal grant from Homeland Security is meant to help infrastructure and recovery across the Bay area. The City of Tampa is taking point, but Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Hernando are included to build a regional strategy.
It’s easy to be a cynic, so here’s hoping something concrete reaches Southshore. $1.3 million in ones would be tough to fold into a wallet, but when you spread it across one city and three counties, it starts to lose its punch.
Fingers crossed. In the meantime, keep doing those rain dances to keep the hurricanes at bay.

The Milton deadline is two weeks away!

Foodies Only

We just brought Eggs Up Grill on as a partner this week. Their spot in Riverview off US-301 is the perfect blend of great food, great vibes, and great customer service. Now, we don’t do food reviews here (we leave that to The Honest Food Guy on Fridays), but we just had breakfast there, so we can speak with some certainty.
A day after partnering with them, we learned they’d taken a significant hit from theft and vandalism at the restaurant. Had I not stumbled on a Facebook post, I’d have never known. Every person in the restaurant was pleasant and on point. The owners, John and Priscilla, were upbeat and focused on building their business and putting the community first. Not the slightest hint they’d just suffered a loss.
Seeing that post was both shocking and inspiring. It’s easy to let negativity win. It’s much harder to keep your chin up and push through with a smile. That’s exactly what they’re doing. If you’re in Riverview or passing by, stop into Eggs Up Grill and catch some of those positive vibes with a side of scrambled eggs.
If you’ve got a restaurant, food truck, or even a lemonade stand, it could be featured here. Email us at [email protected]
