Breaking Ground for First Responders
New Fire Station and Southshore Scammers Beware
Featured Story
Building the Future of Fire Rescue in Southshore

Southshore’s getting a new fire station, and this one’s not playing around. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue just kicked off construction on Fire Station 47, which will cover North Sun City Center, North Wimauma, and parts of Ruskin. Translation: more help, closer to home, for a part of the county that’s growing so fast we’re basically adding new neighborhoods every time you blink.
Faster response times. More coverage. More crews ready to roll when something goes sideways. As more rooftops go up and traffic gets thicker, the county’s finally answering with more infrastructure, not just more “please be patient” signs. This new station is being built as a modern, fully equipped hub so first responders can keep up with what our area actually looks like now, not what it looked like ten years ago.🚒🔥

Southshore Scam Alert

Scams are everywhere these days, and unfortunately, Southshore is not immune. Some are so ridiculous you find yourself laughing, others have just enough realistic feel to them that you might be typing in your credit card number before that voice in the back of your head can kick in.
Fake utility reps are calling and saying you owe money and have to pay immediately to avoid shutoff. They’ll often demand gift cards or prepaid debit. Real utilities don’t do that. We’re also seeing “contractors” knocking on doors offering same-day repairs, pressure washing, roof work, you name it, then pushing you to pay upfront. If they can’t show ID, licensing, proof of insurance, or you didn’t read about them in here, that’s your sign to slow down.
Then there’s always the fake toll text. You get a message saying you have an unpaid toll balance and need to pay right now to avoid fees or even trouble with your registration. It looks official, there’s a link, it feels urgent. Do not click. That’s scammers trying to grab your card info and sometimes your driver’s license number. If you’re worried, check directly through your real SunPass or toll account, not through some random text.

The more we know, the harder it is for them to catch a neighbor slipping.
Soft Wash, Pressure Wash, Which Wash Do You Need?
Pressure washing feels like one of those “how hard could it be?” chores right up until a company shows up and blasts your paint, carves your driveway, and peels half your soffit off like a string cheese. Or you decide to DIY, climb a sketchy ladder in flip-flops, lose the battle with 3,000 PSI, end up in urgent care, and somehow your house still looks like it’s been living under a swamp. That’s usually the moment you start wishing you’d slowed down, asked a few questions, and hired someone who actually knows what they’re doing.
That’s where Premier Pro Wash & Seal comes in. This is the crew that treats your property like it’s theirs, not like it’s a test surface at a hardware store demo. They’re big on doing it right, protecting your exterior, and actually improving curb appeal without causing new problems. So, here’s the rundown from a pro because an informed customer is a happy customer.
Southshore Spotlight

Joshua Way of Hope is a Tampa nonprofit turning loss into lasting change by honoring Joshua Nichols, a high-achieving young professional whose bright light was dimmed far too soon. Their mission is to lift youth and families at risk of poverty, health disparities, and system involvement. Their vision is for kids to grow into emotionally strong, educated, healthy, and financially independent adults.
They do the work on the ground through programs that meet kids where they are. Little Achievers for pre-K–2, Achievers for grades 3–8, Life Skills 360 Training Institute, and Building a Stronger Me, combining academics, behavior coaching, character development, and family advocacy. If you want impact that feels close to home, support here translates into mentors, skills, and real opportunities for the youth in our community.
