Let’s Hear it For the Grads!

It’s that time of year again—break out the Kleenex, book your Cheesecake Factory reservations, and cue the orchestra because “Pomp and Circumstance” is on repeat. That’s right, it’s graduation time.

Southshore is sending another wave of bright-eyed, bushy-tailed young men and women into the real world. Whether that path includes college, trade school, the military, the workforce, or six months backpacking through Europe while staying in hostels, we’re proud of you just the same.

This time of year is always an emotional one for parents. The culmination of 12+ years of early mornings, projects, and packed lunches is no small feat. Nor is the realization that your little one isn’t so little anymore. So let’s all practice a little extra patience this week—traffic and tears will both be in full swing.

To the graduating Class of 2025: congratulations. You’ve earned it. Welcome to the big leagues of adulthood. As Uncle Ben (or maybe Voltaire, depending who you ask) once said: “With great power comes great responsibility.” You’ve done the hard work. Now go make good choices.

And of course, this wouldn’t be complete without a special shoutout to all the valedictorians and salutatorians out there rocking GPAs that look like football scores (10.3? Seriously?). Look below for some of the standout seniors from East Bay, Sumner, Spoto, Riverview, and Lennard who truly went above and beyond.

We’re proud to recognize:

Joshua Whitzel, Kayla Teekaram, Sebastian Rojas, Jayden Robelli, Tyler Weeks, Vitoria Gadd, James Watt, Molly Burinski, Victor Padilla, Isabella De La Rosa, Kevin Lin, Ahliyah Philbert, Emily Sumner, and Ashlyn Orvik.

From sleepless study nights to GPA scores that make calculators sweat, these seniors have truly gone above and beyond. Southshore, your future is in good hands.

Upon Us All

As you prep the boat, fire up the grill, or toss around a football in the backyard, take a moment to reflect on the reason this day exists. Memorial Day isn’t just a long weekend—it’s a solemn tribute to the men and women of our armed forces who paid the ultimate price, laying down their lives in defense of our country.

We pause not just to honor the fallen, but to recognize a sobering truth: the cost of freedom rests upon us all. It's a legacy—not a burden—that we carry together. In gratitude. In remembrance. And in action.

Politics, by design, is divisive. That’s why we leave it out of this newsletter. So today, let’s not be Republicans or Democrats, black or white, ugly or handsome (but hey—if the mirror’s smiling at you, smile back).
Let’s just be Americans.

The Southshore Circle was created to bring our community closer together. For at least one day, let’s try to be worthy of the sacrifice so many gave for that very idea. Share a beer. Share a burger. Most of all—share a smile.
