The Future is Now
Plans to skip traffic and take to the sky are underway in Florida

For years we’ve joked that the future promised us flying cars, and instead, we got traffic apps telling us we’re still going to be late. Well, Florida may finally be making good on that promise. Flying taxis are officially on the roadmap for 2026, which means the I-4 corridor might soon have congestion both on the ground and above it.
Yes, you read that right. The same stretch of road that has tested marriages, friendships, and the limits of patience may soon have people skipping it entirely by lifting straight up into the sky. The plan is to roll out an electric flying taxi service between major hubs like Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach using special takeoff and landing pads. Think less airport runway and more futuristic helipad with better marketing.
In theory, this all sounds incredible. Beat traffic. Shorter travel times. No brake lights. In reality, some of us are going to need a few other people to test this out first. I’m not saying I won’t ever ride in a flying taxi, but I am saying I won’t be in the first group smiling for the promotional photos. I like my transportation the way I like my elevators. Proven. Quiet. And with a long history of not dropping people.
There are still plenty of unanswered questions. How much will it cost? Who gets priority? And what happens when someone tries to lean out the window to get a better view of downtown? But the fact that this is even being discussed seriously means we are officially living in a time where the future is showing up, whether we’re ready or not.
So while I’ll happily watch the early adopters zip overhead and report back, I’ll be down here on the ground, gripping the steering wheel, complaining about traffic, and quietly admitting that flying cars sound cool as long as someone else goes first.
Still, keep an eye on the sky. Southshore might not get flying taxis tomorrow, but the idea that they’re coming at all feels like something we would have laughed at not that long ago. And if nothing else, it gives us a new way to complain about traffic.
Slowly, Then All at Once
How Kuma Plumbing helps Southshore homeowners avoid plumbing emergencies
Most plumbing emergencies don’t start as emergencies.
They start as a slow drain that clears itself…
a toilet that runs a little longer than it should…
or a water bill that creeps up without explanation.
In Southshore, local plumbers say many of the biggest, most expensive issues they see could’ve been avoided if they were caught just a little earlier. Florida homes deal with hard water, aging pipes, and heavy daily use, and small issues have a way of staying hidden until they suddenly can’t be ignored.
That’s why preventative plumbing checks matter more than most homeowners realize. Identifying minor leaks, buildup, or pressure issues early can help prevent water damage, mold, and unexpected repair bills later on.
Local partner, Kuma Plumbing, works with homeowners across Southshore to spot problems before they turn into emergencies. Their team focuses on education and honest assessments, helping residents understand what’s happening behind the walls and under the floors, not just fixing things when they break.
If you’ve noticed slow drains, inconsistent water pressure, or anything that just doesn’t feel right, it may be worth having a professional take a look sooner rather than later.

Heavy Metal Babies?
Reports of heavy metals in some baby formulas have parents taking a closer look

If you’ve ever stood in the baby formula aisle reading labels and second-guessing every choice, you’re not alone. For many Southshore families, formula isn’t optional. It’s a daily necessity. That’s why recent testing in Florida raised some important questions.
State officials tested a range of infant formula products and found that more than half contained detectable levels of heavy metals like lead, mercury, arsenic, or cadmium. While this doesn’t signal immediate danger, it does highlight gaps in current oversight, since federal standards focus more on bacterial safety than chemical contaminants.
For parents, news like this can feel overwhelming. Feeding your child already comes with enough pressure. Health experts generally advise against panic and recommend talking with your pediatrician, staying informed, and watching for updated guidance as standards and testing continue to be discussed.
For Southshore families juggling busy schedules and rising costs, this is less about fear and more about awareness. We’ll keep an eye on how this develops and share updates that matter for your family’s peace of mind.
