IT’S NOT JUST AN ANDREA BOCELLI SONG

There have been whispers, there have been rumors, and now the truth is out. It’s time to say goodbye to Goodson Farms. In a heartfelt announcement, the beloved local favorite for all things strawberries has revealed they are closing their doors for good.

The reason? Retirement. After years of serving the Southshore community with fresh produce, homemade shortcakes, and countless memories, the Goodson family is hanging up their hats. But the sad reality is that they’re not alone. Family farms like Goodson's are disappearing at an alarming rate.

As development sweeps through the area, property taxes continue to climb, making it increasingly difficult for small, family-owned businesses to stay afloat. What used to be fields of strawberries and rows of crops are now turning into subdivisions and strip malls, leaving little room for the heart and soul of our community—the family farms that shaped it.

Goodson Farms wasn’t just a business; it was a piece of Southshore’s identity, a gathering place for families, and a symbol of tradition. Losing it feels like saying goodbye to a bit of what makes our community special.

So, this is farewell to another cherished Southshore landmark. To the Goodson family, we thank you for the years of delicious strawberries and sweet memories. You’ll be dearly missed.

TIPPING THE SCALES IN SOUTHSHORE

We’ve talked about tipping before, but this time, the issue hits closer to home. Riverview's Village Inn has been making waves in the Socialsphere with a new policy that’s left diners shaking their heads.

Customers are now greeted with an 18% mandatory “service charge” simply for showing up. According to the Village Inn, this fee isn’t a tip—it’s meant to ensure all staff involved in your dining experience are properly paid.

I’m sorry, isn’t that what the menu prices are supposed to reflect?

Understandably, patrons aren’t thrilled. Who could blame them? That 18% “service fee” stacked on top of the usual 20% tip means your $60 breakfast suddenly becomes an $85 lesson in wealth transfer. It feels like the trend is shifting from businesses providing a service to businesses demanding payment just for existing.

The backlash has been swift, with customers taking to social media to vent their frustrations. Is this the future of dining out? Are we heading into a full-blown TIPOCALYPSE?

We’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you encountered this? How do you feel about mandatory fees that aren’t even considered tips? Let us know in the comments or drop us a quick reply. After all, as they say, the squeaky wheel gets the grease—and maybe, just maybe, some clarity on our bills!
