Life Is Better On a Boat

Want to get your business in The Southshore Circle? Let’s talk!
Life is Better On a Boat

Welcome to The Southshore Circle—where adding a boat improves everything... except your bank account.
In Today’s Edition:
Florida Man Approved
The weather’s heating up, the storms have passed (we hope), and it’s officially time to get outside and Florida like Florida Man—just, you know, without the arrest record.
This weekend—Friday, March 28th through Sunday, March 30th—WFLA and Armature Works are teaming up to host the 34th Annual News Channel 8 Outdoors Expo and Boat Show in downtown Tampa.
🌊 Admission is free
☀️ The weather looks amazing
🚤 And who knows… maybe it’s time you bought a boat (or at least climbed on one and pretended).
This is a family-friendly event along the beautiful Hillsborough River. You can:
Tour boats that are actually floating
Browse the latest in fishing gear, boating accessories, outdoor gadgets, and apparel
Frolic in the Florida sunshine (highly recommended)
And enjoy food and drinks with a river view
If sushi is your thing, Zukku Sushi is a Circle favorite—top-tier rolls and Instagram-worthy presentation. Not into fish? No worries, there are plenty of other delicious options nearby that don’t swim.
With nearly 400,000 square feet of exhibit space, this event is basically the Super Bowl of outdoor living… just with more flip-flops and fewer commercials.
Even if you're not shopping for a boat, this is a great excuse to enjoy the weather, sip something cold by the water, and pretend you’re living your best yacht life.
Hope to see you there—sunblock optional, but strongly encouraged.
What You Need to Know About Lucy’s Law
If you spend time on the water, this one’s for you.
Florida lawmakers are pushing forward “Lucy’s Law,” named in honor of 17-year-old Lucy Fernandez, who tragically lost her life in a 2022 boating accident. The proposed legislation aims to make our waterways safer by tightening boating regulations—and yes, it could affect how you hit the water.
Here’s what’s on deck:
⚓ Mandatory Boater Safety Education
All boaters born after a certain date may be required to complete updated safety courses before operating a vessel—no more skipping the fine print.
🚨 Harsher Penalties for Recklessness
The law would increase consequences for boating under the influence and other dangerous behaviors, especially when injuries or fatalities occur.
📋 Stricter Licensing & Age Limits
Expect changes to who can drive a boat, and under what conditions. This could include mandatory adult supervision for younger boaters.
Why it matters for Southshore boaters:
We love our time on the water—whether it’s fishing, cruising, or just floating with a cold drink. But Lucy’s Law is a reminder that fun can turn tragic in a second. If passed, it’ll bring a new level of accountability and safety to Tampa Bay’s waterways.
We’ll keep you posted as the bill moves forward. In the meantime, consider brushing up on your boating safety—you know, before it becomes homework.
Stay safe and wave responsibly.
Change Is in The Air…and The Inbox
Heads Up, Circle Fam! 🌊
Over the next few issues, you might notice a few changes to the look and feel of the newsletter. Don’t panic—you haven’t drifted into unfamiliar waters. We’re just doing a little spring cleaning (minus the dust bunnies and existential dread).
We’re working on streamlining the content and making it easier to navigate, all while giving our branding a fresh coat of sunshine. The goal? A smoother, more consistent experience that gets you the local scoop faster—and with fewer scrolls.
So if things look a bit different, just know it’s still us… just slightly better dressed.
