🚨 Safety Alert for Pool Owners! 🚨

☀️ It’s Been Brutally Hot This Summer. We Know the First Thing You Want to Do Is Jump in the Pool… But Not So Fast.

More than 5 million above-ground pools have just been recalled after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission linked them to nine toddler drownings.

The issue? Pools sold by Bestway, Intex, and Polygroup between 2002 and 2023 include a compression strap around the outside that acts like a foothold, making it dangerously easy for young children to climb in, even without a ladder.

These pools were sold nationwide, including right here in Florida, and the fix is simple but urgent.

If you or a neighbor has one of these pools:

  • Check the model to see if it’s part of the recall (48”+ deep from Bestway, Intex, or Polygroup).

  • Request a free repair kit—it replaces the strap with a safer ground-level rope.

  • Until fixed, secure the pool or restrict access.

This isn't just a summer inconvenience, drowning is the leading cause of death for kids under 4 in Florida. Let’s make sure we’re all keeping our families safe while we try to beat the heat.

We’ll share more safety tips and resources in the days ahead. In the meantime, pass this along to anyone you know with an above-ground pool.

Stay cool, stay safe. 💧

🎾 From Tennis Tiffs to Pickleball Pandemonium

In case you missed it, WFLA recently reported that residents in Andalucia, a gated community in Apollo Beach, are caught up in a full-blown turf war over pickleball players using the tennis courts. The issue? Noise complaints, court congestion, and a lot of paddle-wielding passion on both sides.

Now, we’re not picking sides, but we’ve lived through something almost identical. And let us tell you, it wasn’t pretty.

In our neighborhood, we’ve got a dedicated basketball court and over half a dozen proper tennis courts. But a while back, the community started allowing pickleball players to use the basketball court, just to give them a space.

At first, it was fine. A few friendly matches, nothing major.

But fast forward a few months, and suddenly it was Pickleballpalooza. Courts were packed every morning. Basketball players, especially teens, couldn’t get a single game going. You’d show up with a ball and a friend, only to be met with a sea of paddles and polite-but-firm stares that basically said: You can wait your turn… or come back tomorrow.

Eventually, the pressure cooker boiled over. Enough residents spoke up, and the community relented. Dedicated pickleball courts were built, and the basketball court was restored to its original purpose. The tennis courts? Untouched. Because even the bravest among us know better than to mess with the tennis crowd.

So to the folks in Andalucia: hang in there. We’ve been there. These things can work themselves out as long as there’s space, compromise, and maybe a little less 7 a.m. paddle noise.
