Invest 91L Could Bring Days of Heavy Rain and Localized Flooding to Southshore Next Week

Just when it looked like we were in for a typical rainy Florida week, the forecast has taken another turn. Forecasters are now tracking Invest 91L in the Gulf of Mexico. While it may never become a named tropical storm, that's not what has meteorologists watching it so closely. The bigger concern is the amount of tropical moisture it's expected to pull into Florida over the next several days.

For Southshore, that could mean a much wetter start to the week than we originally expected. Beginning Monday, periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to become more widespread, with the potential for several inches of rain by midweek. If storms repeatedly move over the same areas, localized flooding could become an issue, especially on roads that tend to collect water after heavy summer downpours.

The good news is this isn't expected to be a major wind event or the kind of storm that has everyone rushing to the hardware store for plywood. At least not at this point. The main concern is simply rain...and lots of it.

If you've got youth sports, outdoor work, or a commute planned over the next few days, it may be worth giving yourself a little extra time and keeping an eye on the forecast before heading out.

We've all lived here long enough to know that Florida weather has a personality of its own. Sometimes the storms that cause the biggest headaches are the ones that never earn a name.

Today is the final day of SharkCon at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, where marine biologists, conservationists, Shark Week personalities, photographers, and thousands of shark enthusiasts have gathered for one of the largest shark-themed events in the country.

Visitors can meet experts, browse more than 150 vendors, see incredible shark displays, learn about marine conservation, and discover why these incredible animals deserve more respect than fear. Honestly, this feels like one of the most Florida things imaginable.

Only in Florida can you spend the morning at the beach wondering if that dark shape in the water is a shark...then spend the afternoon paying for a ticket to learn everything there is to know about them. If you're looking for something a little different to do today, SharkCon might be worth the short drive out of Southshore.
