⏱️ Turn Left... If You’re Lucky lane timing causes issues at busy Riverview intersection
If you’ve driven through Bloomingdale Avenue and Gornto Lake Road lately, you’ve probably noticed it’s less “intersection” and more “intermission.” Drivers say getting through the left turn can take multiple light cycles, especially during rush hour.
With nearby shopping centers, U.S. 301, and I-75 all adding pressure, the left and right turn lanes on Gornto Lake are struggling to keep up. Long waits and backed-up lanes are becoming the norm.
While Hillsborough County transportation officials say the signals are timed to adjust to daily traffic patterns, they admit the timing at this busy intersection is due for another look.
Will they tweak it? Widen it? Only time will tell. Until then, consider packing snacks—or avoiding the turn altogether.

Get Your Grant Money Before July 25
If you're an artist in Hillsborough County and your "equipment" still includes a dusty iPhone and blind optimism, listen up, the Arts Council is offering up to $2,000 to help fund your next move.
The Professional Development for Artists (PDA) grant covers things like new equipment or training that helps you grow your career. It’s open to both emerging and established artists, painters, photographers, musicians, crafters, and creators of all stripes.
Applications are due by Friday, July 25 at 5 p.m., and projects must happen between Jan. 1 and Aug. 15, 2026. Grants go to the highest-scoring submissions until funds run out.
With Hillsborough’s arts industry raking in $387 million in economic impact, the county knows creativity matters, and they’re backing it up with real support.
So apply now. Upgrade your gear. Take that class. And keep making art, the rest of us can’t stop talking about.
