Looking For A Few Good Men

If you’ve ever thought about making a difference but believed you needed to free up half your weekend, think again. In Hillsborough County, TSIC is seeking male mentors to step in and help guide students.
The program connects adult volunteers with young people. No pressure, no awkward “life coach” stuff. You just meet, talk, and show up. It’s simple, but powerful. And yes, it works: students in the program are more confident, taking leadership roles, and actually enjoying the ride through high school instead of coasting.
For less than an hour a week, you could make a lifelong impact.
Here’s the part nobody tells you: a lot of these boys don’t need a lecture. They just need proof. Proof that someone like them made it into adulthood with a job, a phone bill, a car that mostly runs, and a life that didn’t fall apart the first time something got hard. They need somebody who’ll listen without judging and nudge without preaching.
If that sounds like something you can give, this is your moment. They’re asking. We’re amplifying it. The only missing piece is you.

To Be of Service

Sometimes it feels like making a difference requires a grand gesture, writing a big check, starting a nonprofit, or dedicating endless weekends to a cause. But what if it only took two hours? That’s the idea behind this week’s Southshore Volunteer Two-Hour Challenge.
Every week, we’re picking one small project that locals can join, no long-term commitment, no red tape, just two hours of time that create a measurable impact right here in our community.
Here’s the challenge this week. No guessing, no maybe-next-time, no “I’ll think about it.”
ECHO (Emergency Care Help Organization) is a local nonprofit that helps families in crisis with food, clothing, and essentials. They’re serving people right here in our community. When rent jumps, when hours get cut, when somebody has to choose between buying gas and buying groceries, ECHO is one of the places that quietly steps in.
Take that first step today and reach out to see how you can be of service. Click the link below to find the different ways you can donate a little of your time to ECHO.

This might become a recurring Sunday section, so let’s see how this goes.
Customer Service
The easiest thing to be good at, and somehow the hardest thing to do right.
Companies love to compete on price. Lower this, lower that. It’s understandable, customers dictate price. But do they really? There’s an old sales saying: “You are the prize.” That’s hard to live by when payroll’s due and bills are stacking up. Still, if you don’t value your products and services, who will? So, where can you increase perceived value and still hold your price? Customer service.
People won’t remember what you said, and most will forget what you did, but everyone will remember how you made them feel. That’s your easiest win and something you should already be great at.
Unfortunately, customer service today is at an all-time low. Too often, companies act like your business is a burden, as if them doing their job is a favor. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the food industry.
Set yourself apart. Step up your service and watch your revenue climb. There’s a reason Chick-fil-A always has a never-ending line. Those two words, “My pleasure,” are responsible for more repeat business than all the chicken sandwiches in the world.
Southshore Spotlight

Joshua Way of Hope is a Tampa nonprofit turning loss into lasting change by honoring Joshua Nichols, a high-achieving young professional whose bright light was dimmed far too soon. Their mission is to lift youth and families at risk of poverty, health disparities, and system involvement. Their vision is for kids to grow into emotionally strong, educated, healthy, and financially independent adults.
They do the work on the ground through programs that meet kids where they are. Little Achievers for pre-K–2, Achievers for grades 3–8, Life Skills 360 Training Institute, and Building a Stronger Me, combining academics, behavior coaching, character development, and family advocacy. If you want impact that feels close to home, support here translates into mentors, skills, and real opportunities for the youth in our community.
