🎣 Snapper Talk: FWC Wants Your Input

If your summer plans include a rod, a boat, and a cooler full of ice, you might want to pay attention to this one. The Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission is hosting public workshops to hear what you think about some possible new rules for Gulf lane snapper.
They're considering:
Raising the size limit from 8 to 10 inches (bigger fish, bigger bragging rights).
Adding a 20-fish per person bag limit for recreational anglers (just enough for a fish fry, not enough to feed the entire HOA).
So if you’ve got thoughts, now’s the time to speak up—before the rules change and your favorite fishing spot surprises you with new limits.
📍 Workshop Locations:
June 25: Fort Myers
June 26: St. Pete
June 30: Virtual (for those who prefer A/C and pajama pants)
📬 Can’t attend? No problem. Drop your thoughts here: MyFWC.com/SaltwaterComments or email them at [email protected].
Southshore anglers, this is your chance to help shape the rules that shape your weekends.
🎣 Hook a say while you can.

Southshore Story Time
Sun City Center - The Retirement Revolution

Part Four
The City That Watches Itself
Today, Sun City Center still sparkles under the sun. Lawns are trimmed with eerie uniformity. The shuffleboard courts look freshly poured, but no one seems to use them. New residents move in, and life goes on like nothing ever happened.
But every year, without fail, the shuffleboard court is resealed. Officially for maintenance. Unofficially... no one asks anymore.
Surveillance cameras dot the street corners, but no one recalls when they were installed. Residents say the quiet is peaceful. Others say it’s the kind of quiet that makes your ears ring.
Occasionally, someone new asks about the tunnel. The answer is always the same:
"What tunnel?"
And just like that, everything stays perfect.
Too perfect.
And late at night, under that eerie silence, a low hum still vibrates from beneath the shuffleboard courts. Like something is still alive. Still waiting.
Still watching.
🎆 Boom or Bust? Fireworks Safety & Your 4th of July Plans 🎇

It’s that time of year again when we celebrate freedom by grilling questionable meats, sweating through our red-white-and-blue outfits, and giving our pets a full-blown anxiety attack.
Yes, Southshore… the Fourth of July is almost here — and with it comes the great backyard battle between “this will be fun” and “should we call the fire department?”
Before you turn your driveway into a mini war zone, a few gentle reminders:
Roman candles are not dueling swords.
Sparklers hit 1,200°F — so maybe don’t hand one to your toddler in Crocs.
And if you have a friend who says, “Hold my beer, watch this,” tell him no… or at least make sure someone is filming.
Also, be kind to your neighbors, your dog, your neighbor’s dog, and anyone who wasn’t expecting to reenact D-Day from their porch.
💬 Now tell us — how do you celebrate the 4th in Southshore? Backyard BBQ? Local fireworks? Sitting inside with a weighted blanket and noise-canceling headphones?
Reply and let us know… and if your uncle Dave launches bottle rockets out of a canoe again, we definitely want to hear about it.
Stay safe. Stay patriotic. And maybe keep a hose nearby.
🇺🇸 Happy 4th, y’all!
