SOUTHSHORE SUPERBOWL SHENANIGANS

Morning from The Southshore Circle! We’re growing like a weed—and it’s not even spring yet. 🌱😏
In Today’s Edition:
Southshore Superbowl Celebration
Tonight’s the night! If you haven’t made plans yet, time is running out.
No worries—we’ve got you covered. Southshore is packed with great spots to catch the big game, and we’ve rounded up the best ones. Whether you’re looking for killer wings, ice-cold drinks, or the perfect spot to cheer with fellow fans, here’s where you need to be:
An Eggistential Threat (Sorry we couldn’t help ourselves)

Eggs. Chickens. We’re not sure which came first, but there’s a whole lot of clucking going on about both. If you haven’t heard, egg prices are soaring—right through the roof of the hen house. 😁
The culprits? Supply chain issues, bird flu, and regulatory changes are all being blamed for the sky-high cost of eggs. According to Newsweek, a staggering 13.2 million egg-laying hens have been culled, turning this into a literal Hunger Games for breakfast lovers.
Not long ago, a dozen eggs averaged around $2—now, the price has jumped to $4.15, with some unlucky shoppers shelling out as much as $8 per dozen. If your legendary Sunday morning omelet has become a casualty of this egg-pocalypse, don’t worry—we’ve got a solution.
Buy local.
Lucky for you, Southshore has plenty of local farmers with fresh eggs ready to go. Yes, buying direct may come with a slight premium, but the quality and freshness more than make up for it. Plus, big-box grocery stores are charging more for less flavor and lower quality.
Most small farms don’t have a big online presence, but a quick Google search will point you in the right direction. To save you some time, here are two of our top picks—give them a try!
Southshore Big Lots Dodges a Bullet (maybe)
Some things just can’t be found at Publix or Walmart, and let’s be real—driving all the way to Target? That’s a commitment.
That’s where Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Big Lots step in, filling the void with trinkets, discount finds, and things you didn’t know you needed until you saw them. In Ruskin, Big Lots has been a go-to, especially with only a handful of other “dollar stores” in the area.
So when the discount retailer announced its closure last December, many were shocked. But, like a wounded phoenix rising from the bargain bin, Big Lots might just be crawling out of the ashes.
Gordon Brothers Retail Partners recently released a list of 200 stores “likely” to stay open—and yes, Ruskin made the cut.
Is it official? Not yet. But it’s a good sign for Southshore. We’ll keep tracking the story and bring you updates—so stay tuned!

After a stellar season, the Sumner Stingrays girls' team fought hard but fell to Newsome in the Regional Semifinal. While the loss stings, their hard work and achievements this season deserve a huge round of applause. We have no doubt they’ll be back even stronger next year!
Meanwhile, the Riverview Sharks boys' team went head-to-head with Riverview Sarasota on Friday night—and they delivered. With two clutch goals, they secured their spot as the official Riverview team standing in the playoffs.
Now, the Sharks move on to the Regional Final, where they’ll take on Palm Harbor University this Wednesday night. Let’s go, Sharks! 🦈⚽

It was a hard-fought battle for our Southshore boys’ teams in district play.
Lennard made it to the second round but ran into a tough Plant squad that ended their run.
East Bay edged out Southeast before facing a powerhouse Jesuit team in the District Finals.
Sumner pulled off a second-half comeback against Alonso, only to fall to Plant in the District Finals.
But it may not be over just yet—both Sumner and East Bay could earn a bid into the State Playoffs based on their second-place finishes. We’ll keep you posted!
Now, let’s talk about the girls.
East Bay absolutely demolished Southeast with a 55-13 victory before taking on Braden River for the District Championship. And they delivered—clinching their first-ever District title in school history! Huge congrats to the East Bay girls for bringing another championship to Southshore as they head into the State Playoffs.
Riverview fell to Palm Harbor University in the semifinals.
Sumner squeaked past Plant but fell to Palm Harbor University in the District Finals, losing by just six points. Their season isn’t over yet, though—Sumner is expected to qualify for the State Playoffs.
With multiple Southshore teams in the hunt for State titles, this could be a huge year. How do you like those apples? 🍏🏀
