Want to get your business in The Southshore Circle? Let’s talk!

A SUPER MOON IN SOUTHSHORE

The final super moon for the next two years is blazing in the night. But something else is streaking through the Southshore sky.

In Today’s Edition:

  • Leonid Meteor Shower

  • My Warriors Place

  • The Battle for Contractors

THE LEONID METEOR SHOWER REACHES IT’S PEAK

This weekend, tonight specifically, may be the best day to view the Leonid meter shower. As these celestial bodies streak through our sky, at a rate of around 15 meteors per hour they will be backlit by the nearly full super moon. But don’t worry the Leonids are an exceptionally bright group of meteors and include a higher percentage of “fireball meteors,” that increase visibility.

For best viewing it’s said that you should find the Leo constellation then look slightly east. I don’t know about you, but i’m no Magellan so best bet is to stare at the sky and cross your fingers. However you find them, tonight is the night. So, make sure you don’t miss the fireworks.

RUSKIN WARRIORS

A mother turns tragedy to triumph. Kelly Kowall lost her son, Corey, in the line of duty in Afghanistan. That tragedy spurred her to start My Warriors Place in Ruskin, a retreat for veterans and military members.

The death of her son was the first in a series of tragic events including the end of her marriage and thoughts of suicide. And what she realized was there were not enough resources to help families dealing with the same issues.

My Warrior’s Place sits on the Little Manatee River and includes cottages, boat rides and even fishing. It’s a welcome reprieve for many veterans and for Kelly a way to honor her son and keep his memory alive.

THE RISE OF THE ROOFER

Following the housing downturn back in 2007, the entire real estate industry was understandably shaken up. Professions like contracting and overall house rehabs, that had once been all the rage, had a bit of a cooling period. The honeymoon was over and these services fell out of favor.

But after two back to back hurricanes and billions of dollars of sustained damage, general contractors and the like are in high demand. Such high demand in fact, that you can’t even find one.

Permits and contractor availability seem hard to come by as many homeowners in the Bay Area, and Southshore specifically find themselves displaced for extended periods of time. FEMA seems overwhelmed at best and options like mortgage forbearance and relocation are extreme if not difficult to achieve.

This year will truly be marked as the year of the roofer. The hundreds of neighborhoods with roofs covered in blue tarps, can assure these trades will be in demand for years to come.
