IS SANTA ALREADY SCOOTING IN?

We’ve barely put the skeletons back in the closet and the reindeers are already prancing through the sand. It’s eighty-five degrees outside, but the plastic snowmen refuse to melt. Lobsters might as well be jumping into the boiling water themselves and we’re losing an hour. But why?

In Today’s Edition:

  • Why Christmas gets earlier every year

  • Are we daylight saving?

  • Fall mood rhymes with Seafood

Santa wants six months

If you’re wondering why all the Christmas decorations have already started hitting the shelves then you’re not alone. For the last decade it seems stores can’t get the Halloween decor hidden fast enough. Here in Southshore that takes on a whole new meaning since that translates to reindeer and tinsel rubbing shoulders with board shorts and cast nests.

USA Today wrote an article about this phenomenon, but while stores battle for your bucks, don’t forget to get out and partake in some of the holiday events happening around the shore. Don’t worry we’ll keep you in the know with a list of things you can do to occupy your holiday down time.

Another year, another hour gone.

You might be reading this email and things look a little bit different outside. Because as of 2 AM Sunday morning we jumped back an hour in the age old tradition known as Daylight Savings. Every November this archaic practice comes to an end until March, and like so many others we don’t understand why we’re still doing it.

According to the US Astronomical Applications Department, Daylight Saving was established to help maximize daylight hours during the summertime. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather just have a consistent clock. Nevertheless, back into the shadows we go for the long winter.

The Ruskin Seafood & Arts Festival

I don’t know where you’ll be November 16th, but I know I’ll be indulging in some of the communities tastiest seafood dishes. The Ruskin Seafood and Arts Festival has been around for over three decades and this year, it’s FREE. The Greater Southshore Chamber of Commerce eliminated the entry fee this year in light of the recent hurricanes. So, be sure to check this event out for live music, the arts and crafts market, a car show, and tons of seafood!

What’s washing up on the shore this week:

Talk on the town says another Publix is on it’s way to Ruskin at the corner of 19th & 30th
