Southshore’s Endless Summer

It’s almost here. You can smell the heat in the air. Taste the salt on the wind. Hear that Will Smith song playing in your ears. The real Will Smith…before he slapped Chris Rock. The Fresh Prince one. Summer, summer, summertime.

Besides avoiding heat strokes, trying to find a time to hit the beach without the rest of the continental United States there, and fighting with mosquitoes and love bugs, there’s quite a bit to do in Southshore over the summer.

From paddleboarding in Apollo Beach to food truck hopping in Riverview, Southshore actually has plenty going on—if you know where to look. That’s why, starting next week, we’re kicking off a new summer series in The Southshore Circle.

Every issue, we’ll feature a fresh local activity—something fun, new, or off the beaten path—that you can try right here in your own backyard. Think sunset yoga classes, hidden fishing spots, cool kids camps, date night ideas, and even the occasional indoor escape (because, yes, we too fear sunburns and swamp back).

We’ll do the sweating, scouting, and scheduling so you can just show up and enjoy it.

Got a favorite local summer activity we should feature? Hit reply and let us know. Otherwise, grab your shades, slather on the SPF, and get ready—summer in the Circle is about to be 🔥.

Sumner Softball - This Isn’t Goodbye, It’s See You Later

To the incredible young women of the Sumner Stingrays Softball team,

You didn’t just play a game—you made history, brought a community together, and showed us all what it means to fight with heart.

Falling to Sarasota in the regional finals by a score of 8–3 may not have been the ending you wanted, but make no mistake—it doesn't define your season. Your grit, teamwork, and determination inspired not just your classmates, but families across Southshore. You gave us something to rally behind—something to believe in.

You’ve set a new standard for excellence at Sumner High. You’ve made your coaches proud, your parents proud, and your entire community proud.

So thank you—for every pitch, every catch, every swing, and every moment of hustle. You represented Sumner with class, fire, and fearlessness.

To the seniors on the team: it may feel like you’ve left your high school career incomplete. But that’s not true. What you’ve left is a legacy—a standard and a mark for all those who come after you to strive toward. Your journey is just beginning, and your impact on Sumner will be felt for years to come.

To the underclass: we’ll be cheering you on next season.

But for now, all of you—take a bow. You’ve earned it. If you know these ladies personally, or even if you spot someone around town rocking Sumner Softball gear, give them a handclap. They deserve it.

From all of us at The Southshore Circle, congratulations on one of the most outstanding seasons we’ve ever seen.

💙🥎 #StingrayStrong
