What’s Southshore’s Best Bet?

Florida lawmakers are battling over two tax-relief options, and it's got everyone talking. We covered Gov. Desantis’ proposal in an earlier edition, but now there’s a new fighter entering the ring.

  • Property Tax Rebate: Gov. DeSantis wants to hand homeowners about $1,000 each in a one-time rebate—great for homeowners, but local schools and roads might give us the side-eye.

  • Sales Tax Cut: House Speaker Perez suggests permanently dropping sales tax from 6% to 5.25%, meaning cheaper shopping trips for everyone—because who doesn’t love saving on groceries and beach gear?

Either way, Southshore residents win something—it's just a matter of who benefits most: homeowners now or everyone at the checkout line later.

We'll keep an eye on Tallahassee so you can focus on Southshore sunsets!

Smile or Stop!

Hillsborough County has officially installed stop-arm cameras on all school buses—including the ones rolling through Southshore. That means if you try to sneak past a stopped bus, the camera sees all, and your wallet might feel it.

🚨 Fine Alert: Get caught zipping past a stopped school bus? That’s a $225 ticket—with a lovely photo souvenir delivered straight to your mailbox.

📈 In just the first few weeks, more than 6,500 violations were recorded countywide. So yes, plenty of folks are learning this the hard (and expensive) way.

Let’s be honest: trying to pass a stopped school bus isn’t just illegal—it’s wildly irresponsible. Kids are unpredictable, and that extra minute you think you're saving could cost a life. So seriously: see the stop sign, hit the brakes, wave at the camera, and carry on with a clean conscience.

Some drivers have complained that it's hard to challenge the citations—but here's an idea: don’t get one. The safest bet is just doing what you were supposed to in the first place.

The cameras are live, the kids are watching, and so are we. Drive safe, Southshore—your karma (and bank account) will thank you!
