Time to go Shopping?
Interest rates, hurricanes, and the dancing queen of Riverview

Interest Rates Are Down. Can I Interest You in a House?

I’m sure you’ve heard the news. If you didn’t, don’t worry, the folks at The Southshore Circle are here to keep you in the loop. The Fed decided to lower interest rates by a whole quarter of a percent, and you know what that means, Southshore. Don’t you? It means it’s time to go shopping. House shopping. Specifically, time to pull the trigger and drop $20 million on that house on Surfside Blvd. You know the one.
Just kidding. In all seriousness, what a slow decline in interest rates could mean for us out here is a bit of a boost to the cycle that rules us all. Cheaper money usually means increased spending or refinancing of more expensive debt. And businesses are more apt to expand, spend, and maybe hire.
Better credit card rates. Better auto loan rates. Better life? Don’t be so dramatic. But it’s a good sign, and I’ll take good news wherever it lands. So while a 12,000 sq. ft. home may not be in your immediate future, maybe a new job is.

Good Vibes Only
The Dancing Queen of Riverview

You’ve certainly seen her, and if you were having a bad day, it immediately got better. Filomena Albano, aka the Dancing Queen of Riverview, is an entire vibe. And that vibe is good energy only.
We’ve never met her, but her energy and positivity is magnetic. Even when you’re passing by doing 45 mph. Earbuds in. Big smile. Arms up. Hips keeping time with whatever’s on the playlist. Some days it’s a shimmy. Some days it’s a full-on halftime show. Either way, that corner turns into a mood reset button.
I’ve watched honk-happy drivers turn into backup dancers. Kids in car seats clap along. Even the grumpy guy in the lifted truck cracks a grin. Ten seconds at the light, and your whole day shifts two clicks toward better.
Riverview has long lights, long weeks, and plenty to stress about. She reminds us that the little stuff still counts. A song. A wave. A quick two-step between errands. That’s community.
If you know Filomena, tell her The Circle says thank you. If you see her at a light, roll the window down, send a wave, and let a little of that good energy ride shotgun the rest of the day.

Southshore Close Encounters

Part 3: Gibtown Sends a Sign
If you’re going to meet aliens anywhere, Riverview’s Showmen’s Museum feels on brand. Marco and Dotty walked past the old sideshow banners and Ferris wheel parts, and the shell’s purr turned into a barbershop chord. A docent flicked the lights, and the room glowed cotton-candy gold. The triangle carts rolled in, silent as a mime.
The leader stepped out. Not little, not green, just wearing socks with sandals. He spoke in perfect Florida. “We traced a signal you folks broadcast years ago. Triangular flight path. Very tasteful.”
Dotty remembered a local buzz about a triangle in the Tampa sky. “You saw that, too?”
“Of course,” he said. “We follow Patch.” Then he bowed toward the shell. “Your elders stacked shells into memory palaces. We heard them across the water.” He gestured toward Tampa Bay, as if the entire bay was a radio.

Go Away Gabrielle

We made it past the midpoint, so let’s not start this stuff now. Fortunately, Gabrielle is pretty far away, about 1,000 miles southwest of Bermuda. (Side note: Whatever happened to the Bermuda Triangle? I thought that would be a much bigger part of my life as a kid.)
Gabrielle is forecast to become a legit hurricane sometime on Sunday, but current tracks have her staying far from Florida and toiling around out in the Atlantic. Sounds hopeful, but we know how that goes.
So we’ll keep our eyes open and our fingers crossed. We’ve been doing pretty well, so let’s all knock on wood. Besides, I really want to put my Halloween decorations out and leave them up.
