Step by Step

A few months back, a hurricane—whose name we’ve sworn never to speak again—rolled through and threw a tantrum all over Southshore. Homes, businesses, and lives were left scattered like a game of 52 Pickup. But if there’s one thing about Southshore folks, it’s that we don’t back down from a fight.

One of the hardest-hit local gems was the Ruskin Family Drive-In—a landmark so iconic, it feels like the heart of our little town plays on its screen. The storm tried to write the final credits, but thanks to a whole lot of community love, some out-of-the-box thinking, and the drive-in owners’ stubborn refusal to quit, the show isn't over yet.

Restoration’s been a slow grind but progress is happening one nail at a time. And if you needed a sign, well it’s up.

There’s still a ways to go before we can all kick back under the stars with popcorn in hand, but they’re just 25% shy of reaching their fundraising goal. If you’ve got the means (or just really miss watching movies the old-school way), you can chip in and make a difference here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/help-restore-ruskin-family-drivein-theater.

Let’s keep this Southshore staple’s story from fading to black.
