What is Your Southshore?

Let me start by saying, Southshore is a great area. Whether you claim Ruskin, Apollo Beach, Riverview…you get it. There’s a little something for everyone. I’ve been out this way for decades, and watching the pace of life pick up has been…interesting. But there are still pockets that feel as slow and laid back as ever.

I digress—that’s not really the point. What is my point? That Southshore is more than a collection of towns. It’s an honest-to-God community. And like any good community, you don’t have to look far to find what you need. There are doctors, dentists, roofers, and plumbers. People who’ll build you a house, people who’ll tear it down, and people who’ll haul it away. There are golf courses, golf clubs, and so, so many golf carts. There’s an older gentleman with an accent who’ll sell you a bike for your next triathlon. And a lovely lady who’ll figure out how to keep all that stuff in your garage without making it a fire hazard. All right here in good ol’ Southshore.

That’s what Southshore means to me. It’s salt-soaked wind and the smokestacks of Big Bend scratching the sky from wherever I stand. It’s speeding golf carts and trolling center consoles. It’s a tale of two cities that just happen to be six: Apollo Beach, Gibsonton, Riverview, Ruskin, Sun City Center, and Wimauma.

But enough about what I think Southshore is. How about you? What’s your Southshore? What’s Washing Up on The Shore This Week
